Direct TV an Alternative to Cable TV
We have been itching to get away from Comcast digital cable for quite a while. The problem is they give you a good deal with their bundles that include telepone, hi speed internet, and TV service. When you want to disconnect one of these, you miss out on the savings of the bundle.
But the cable television service just has to go, as the service and quality is well below par. With so much talk today about high definition, there isn’t much selection with Charter cable television. So I began researching who else was available in my neck of the woods.
I am fortunate to be one of the individuals who have been given a couple of choices. Unlike most people who can only pick from either the cable company or Direct TV satellite TV, I have another provider in this area. The old telephone company in this neighborhood has been upgrading the telephone network. So there is another player with Verizon and their FiOS service.
That doesn’t mean of course I won’t have similar problems. It would put someone in the same situation as with the cable television company, because telephone company want customers to package their TV setup with internet and voice service. If the deal works out well, I’ll be happy. Then again if the service is poor you are in the same situation that we all hate, being stuck with cable TV that isn’t all that great. So I’m doing a side by side comparison, cable TV vs Direct TV so I make the right decision.
Most reviews I found are pretty good on telecom television service. Of course it is new, there is sometimes a risk with a service like this, and some people write poor reviews. Some of those reviews are the quite amusing, because people make the decision to write a bad review on their poor experience and share it on the world wide web. Unhappy customers badmouth the company like it is some giant conspiracy to screw the customer, as if the corporation doesn’t want our money!
Another way to go that I’m looking into is of course satellite television. Since we have five TV watchers in the home, we have subscribed in the past to a high end TV bundle. The satellite companies are fairly even, as the DirecTV Premier package and the America’s Everything Pak by Dish Network are both right around $110 per month. Sure that’s pretty high for cable TV, but if you compare that to treating your family to dinner and a movie, the entertainment value is comparable. Some in my family speak Spanish, so the DIRECTV Mas programming package looks like a winner. The good thing is that there are lots of Direct TV opinions to help me decide which direction to take.
